​Brentwood Presentation – 4.01

Michele Langford, second and third grade multi age, dual language classroom teacher from Brentwood Elementary, and seven of her students, presented their poetry learning experience to the board. The students highlighted how the experience of learning and composing poetry taught them important literacy and communications skills. NSSEO Budget Adoption: 2018/19 School Year 2018/19 NSSEO Budget – 5.01
The Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO) Governing Board has prepared a proposed budget for 2018/19 and a directed vote will be taken at the NSSEO Governing Board meeting on June 6, 2018. Therefore, the CCSD59 Board of Education is asked to take action on this proposed budget at their regular meeting on May 29, 2018.

Contracts for $1,000 in Revenue (School Portraits) – 5.02
At the May 29, 2018, board meeting, CCSD59 will vote on acceptance of the contractual photography agreements with Lifetouch National School Studios, Inc. for Grove Junior High and Holmes Junior High, and with Stuart-Rodgers, Ltd. for Friendship Junior High.

Renewal of Medicaid Claiming Agent – 5.03
CCSD59 contracts with a third-party billing service to claim Medicaid funding for which the District is eligible. CCSD59 contracts for claiming services related to the Medicaid Fee for Service reimbursement program. The service provider collects a percentage of the Medicaid fees collected by the District.

The District is currently finishing the last year of a 3-year contract with Hawthorne Associates of Lake County. A Request for Proposal was distributed to four vendors, and the recommendation from administration is to continue with Hawthorne. Hawthorne has proposed to maintain their current rate of 6% for the term of the contract and donate $3,000 back to the District for the first two years of the contract to assist in covering the costs for technology associated with the claiming process.

The board will vote on the contract at the May 29, 2018, board meeting.

Setting Student Meal Fees For The 2018/2019 School Year – 5.04
At the May 29, 2018, board meeting, the board will establish the student per-meal fees for the 2018-19 school year. The proposed fees are:
● Full price lunch: $2.85;
● Full price breakfast: $1.30;
● Reduced price lunch (currently $0.40): in accordance with federal guidelines;
● Reduced price breakfast (currently $0.30): in accordance with federal guidelines;
● Carton of milk price: $0.50

Food Service Contract Renewal For 2018-19 Lunch and Breakfast Programs – 5.05
School year 2018-19 represents the second renewal for the District’s food service management company, Organic Life. State law allows the District to renew a contract four times before a District is required to bid the service.

Organic Life continues to be a valuable partner in offering quality school nutrition programs to our students. The District recommends renewal at the proposed rates.

Seal Coating – 5.06
At the May 29, 2018, board meeting, the board will vote on the approval of the contract award for sealcoating and restriping to Patriot Maintenance, Inc. in the amount of $25,386, which was the  lowest total bid for completing all the work specified.

This year, asphalt is scheduled to be sealcoated and restriped at Brentwood, Clearmont, Grove, Ridge, and Salt Creek. All other schools parking lots and play areas will be freshly repainted. In addition, the Mount Prospect Park District area adjacent to Robert Frost will have sealcoating applied to the pathway and hard play surface areas accessed and used by our students. The park district will restripe these areas for the start of next school year.

Refresh of K-2 Primary Device – 5.07
The board continued to discuss the potential student device refresh for grades K-2. The board plans to take action on the recommendation for refreshing second grade devices at the May 29, 2018, meeting and will continue discussions for the kindergarten and first grade device refresh. Action for kindergarten and first grade devices will potentially occur at a June board meeting.

Videotaping of Board Meetings – 5.08
The board discussed options for video recording and/or audio recording board of education meetings. The board reviewed several cost options, which can be viewed here, and the board plans to take action on future recording of meetings at the May 29, 2018, meeting.

Typically Developing Preschool Students Five Day Program Fee: 2018/19 School Year 8.01
The board approved the following for the 2018/19 preschool program for typically developing students:
● 5-Day: July – June: $285 per month ($1,425 per semester, $2,850 per year);
● The school day (two and one-half hours) and school week,
            Time                                  School Week
            8:15 – 10:45 a.m.               5-Day (M, T, W, Th & F)

  • And, require the first month fee to be paid at the time of confirmation of
    placement in the program, with a family eligible for a refund of the first month
    payment through July 2, 2018.

Award of Bid For Parking Lot Asphalt Resurfacing for Devonshire Elementary School – 8.02
The board approved the contract award for parking lot asphalt resurfacing at Devonshire Elementary to Accu-Paving Company, in the amount of $156,825. Twelve bids were received with Accu-Paving Company providing the qualified lowest bid meeting specifications.

Approval of Donation from CreateED Professional Learning by Crayola to Juliette Low Elementary School – 8.03
The board approved the donation of supplies valued at $500 from CreatED Professional Learning by Crayola to Juliette Low Elementary School to be used for classroom improvements and art supplies.

Approval of Donation from Byrd PTO to Byrd Elementary School – 8.04
The board approved the donation of a Shure SLX receiver, lapel microphone, body pack transmitter and a Shure wireless microphone from Byrd PTO to Byrd Elementary School, valued at $1,450.

​Appointment of And Contract Approval For Elementary Principal – 8.05
After screening applicants, completing multiple levels of interviews and conducting reference checks, the board approved the administration’s recommendation to hire Mrs. Monika Farfan for the position of Clearmont principal at a base salary of $105,500. Mrs. Farfan will begin her new role on July 1, 2018.

Mrs. Farfan has been an educator for 14 years, serving as a teacher and administrator in CCSD59. She has most recently served as an elementary school assistant principal at Juliette Low Elementary School in Arlington Heights for the past four years. Prior to her current role, she was an English as a Second Language teacher at Clearmont Elementary School for ten years.

Approval of Non-Negotiated Contract for Director of Communications & Design – 8.06
After screening applicants, completing multiple levels of interviews and conducting reference checks, the board approved the administration’s recommendation of Mr. Justin Sampson for the position of director of communications and design at an annual base salary of $70,000 (prorated to $6,461.54), effective May 29, 2018.

Mr. Sampson has over five years of experience as a producer, videographer, and digital communications specialist in the television news and public relations industries. His portfolio includes award-winning feature pieces that were compiled while working with over 100 school districts in Missouri. Mr. Sampson will also bring valuable design experience to District 59, having led campaign efforts through graphic design and print content creation for multiple organizations.
