Welcome to the Grove Art Room Website! Check here for updates about all Grove art related information!

For project information, please click on the assignments page.  From there, you will be able to click on whatever project you wish to access.  I leave all the projects/assignments up for the whole quarter so that students can access it even if their work is late.

General Information:

Art is a project based class.  As such, we only do 3-4 large projects per quarter, and 5-6 smaller ones.  Each large project is usually worth 100 points, and the smaller are worth anywhere from 5 points to 50 points.  If you miss any of the large projects, it will seriously affect your grade.  Some projects can be taken home to work on if you get behind, like drawings.  These can easily be transported.  Clay and painting projects cannot be taken home.  If you get behind, you can come in during study hall, or before or after school to finish your work.  I give plenty of time to finish work in class.  The number one reason students do NOT finish in class is because of wasted time!  🙂

I provide most art supplies, but you need to bring in a PENCIL.

Art is about learning to be creative and learning to PROBLEM SOLVE.  I cannot always give you the answers.  Exploring and trying things out are important aspects of the learning process.  You might not like every project we do, but I know everyone will find something they enjoy, and you will learn a lot!

Painting/glazing of the vessel will happen the last week of 3rd quarter, from Monday, March 28th through Friday, April 1st.

Color Wheel Line Painting due:  Friday, March 18th.  (100 points)

Art Folder/Portfolio due:  Friday, April 1st.  (This is extra credit, the amount of points earned depends on the amount of work done and effort put into it.)

Flag/Banner Drawing due:  Friday April 1st.  This is a required assignment! (50 points)

Most students will need to take this project home to finish it.  It is assigned early in the quarter, and students have at least 6-7 weeks to complete it.  It is the only “homework” assignment I give.

This is a not set in stone.  There might be changes, or other projects added or taken away.  Plenty of time will be given to complete all projects IN CLASS, except the Flag/Banner.  Many students will need to take that home in order to finish.  If a student does not complete a project in class, they have the opportunity to take some projects home, if they are not too messy.  Clay can’t be sent home!  If a student cannot take a project home to finish, they can speak with me to make arrangements to stay after school, come in early, or come in during study hall time.

Here are valid reasons for a student to NOT finish a project on time:

*A school approved absence (like illness, etc.)

*Pulled out due to testing.

Here are invalid reasons for a student to NOT finish a project on time:

*Wasting time in class.

*Making poor choices about their work.

*Sleeping

*Talking too much.

Students are learning to be responsible for their own decisions and actions.  I encourage students to come and talk to me ANY TIME they are having trouble in art.  Sometimes the solution is actually very simple.  Students can talk to me in class, before/after class or school, or e-mail with questions.  They need to be pro-active about their grades.  They should check their email daily!  Also students should join my google classroom.  The code for joining the 3rd quarter 6th grade google classroom is:  5juh529.
